Remote Online Notary in Iowa

Iowa is now a Remote Online Notary state. Until recently, a notary public had to be in the same room as the signer for the document to be legally notarized. Now, the signer can be on a different continent and still have a document notarized.

Many legal documents require a notary public certification, including real estate deeds, mortgage contracts, last will and testaments, and powers of attorney.

What is the difference between remote online notary and eNotary?

Electronic notary (eNotary) has been available in the state of Iowa for awhile. An eNotary requires the signer to be in the same location as the notary public for the document to be valid. The signer and the notary public are in the same room signing the document using an electronic device.

Remote Online Notary is different than an electronic notary or eNotary because the signer and notary public are in different locations. The signer can be on a different continent and still use the service if they meet the legal identification requirements.
